Two Houston women who got tired of feeling unsafe walking to their cars — so they built something about it.
Born in H-Town.

It started with a parking garage on the west side of Houston. It was 9 PM. Our co-founder Marisol had just finished a late shift at the Texas Medical Center and was walking alone to her car when she realized — she had nothing. No pepper spray. No alarm. Just her keys between her fingers and a prayer.
She called her best friend and business partner, Jade, from the car and said: "We have to do something about this." Within a week, they'd ordered their first batch of cat ear self defense keychains. Within a month, they'd sold out to friends, coworkers, and neighbors across Houston.
What started as a group chat order became CatSelfDefenseKeychain.com — a woman-owned, Houston-based business with one mission: make sure no woman ever feels as vulnerable as Marisol did that night.

Meet the Founders
A Houston native and former Texas Medical Center administrator, Marisol spent years working late nights in one of the country's largest medical complexes. Her own experience of feeling unsafe in a parking garage sparked the idea that became CatSelfDefenseKeychain.com. She leads product sourcing, quality control, and community outreach — personally testing every keychain before it ships.
📍 Houston HeightsJade grew up in Third Ward and studied Business at the University of Houston. She's the operational backbone of the company — handling logistics, customer service, and the systems that get your keychain from our Houston warehouse to your door within 24 hours. A self-defense advocate since college, Jade also teaches a free personal safety workshop for Houston-area women every quarter.
📍 Third Ward, HoustonPriya joined the team in 2022 after being a loyal customer first. A Katy, TX resident and mother of two daughters, she handles every customer message personally and is the reason our response time is under 4 hours. She's the voice behind the FAQ, the legal research, and the reason we have a no-questions-asked return policy.

We're a Houston business first. A portion of every order funds free personal safety workshops for women in the Houston metro area — because safety starts at home.
We've turned down cheaper suppliers to keep our standard high. Every cat ear keychain in our store is stress-tested for grip and tip integrity before we list it.
From One Parking Garage
to Nationwide
Marisol walks alone to her car at the Texas Medical Center. One phone call later, she and Jade decide to turn a personal fear into a business. Their first 50 keychains sell out in 8 days — to friends, coworkers, and church members.
The website launches from Marisol's kitchen table in the Houston Heights. Within 60 days, orders arrive from 12 states. They hire Priya to handle the growing inbox.
Jade launches the first free personal safety workshop at a community center in Third Ward, Houston. 47 women attend. They start a waitlist for the next one.
The store crosses 5,000 orders. Texas, Florida, and Georgia account for over half of sales. The team expands the product line to include bundle sets and new colorways.
From one parking garage in Houston to 49 states and counting. We've donated over $8,000 worth of free keychains to women's shelters and campus safety programs across Texas — and we're just getting started.
